What Free Denny's Grand Slam Breakfasts Say About America

In an effort to regain its market share, Denny's offered free Grand Slam breakfasts all across America today. The Grand Slam includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage. The promotion was so popular that Denny's website went down after registering 14 million hits between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Denny's expects to churn out 100 Grand Slams an hour at each restaurant and serve 2 million of them today at its 1,500 restaurants.

But the big question is what this promotion, and the huge lines, say about America? That the tanking economy is especially hurting the working class? Or that we've got an obesity epidemic that no one is reporting? We, as Americans, collectively have to pay the price for health care and lost productivity because our fellow Americans suffer from chronic problems like diabetes and heart disease.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, people.
