Irony Day: Global Warming Edition

These scienticians plan to traverse the Northwest Passage and measure the thickness of the ice with a Hummer H1. Listen to the NPR interview here.

No word yet on whether the Hummer will have room in the back to carry the carcasses of drowned polar bears it is responsible for killing.

Yea, but theres not much else that could get out there is there? I don't see a Honda civic making it out there, or a prius.

Which brings me too my next point, they are much worse than any hummer, the damage to the environment they do is exceptionally bad. That is because of the nickel mining that is done to make the batteries, and than that is shipped all over the world like 3 times to make one hybrid, doesn't sound good for the environment now does it? A hummer will last much longer, go further, and carry more.

I agree. Owning a Prius or a hybrid is more about making a statement than anything. I think keeping a 5 to 10 year old car that gets so-so mileage is better for the environment than buying a new hybrid, if you take into account the energy used to make a whole new vehicle and the metals that have to be mined and disposed of down the line.
