Arizona Airplane Boneyard

Near Davis Monthan AFB, thousands of decommissioned U.S. military aircraft are stored here with German-like precession. I think my tax dollars from my 1980s earnings from Arby's paid for 1/10,000,000,000,000 of that. Well, at least we won the Cold War.

I wonder if there is any strategic advantage to keeping all this metal laying around in Arizona instead of recycling the metal. They'll definitely not rust away in the desert.

Guess I should've clicked on the "source" link before leaving my comment:

Of course the important thing to remember is that they are all capable of being returned to service if the need ever
arises

There are gaps and spaces in the lines - are these individual aircraft that have been returned to service?
