2012 Audi A6 wood plank interior

It appears that the supercharged 3-liter that is coming to America  only comes with an 8-speed automatic.  If it came with a manual, I'd seriously consider getting it.  Those planks are out of this world.

My personal opinion is that Audi and Volvo have some of the best interiors in the business. I like the A6 but have a friend who was a technician for an Audi dealership. He used to tell me some of the horror stories about Audi reliability. How much is one man's opinion or hyperbole, I do not know? However, I have stayed away from late model VW's and Audi because of some of the owner's forums.

@MattC: I don't think it's hyperbole. A friend's father bought a new late 90s A6 and literally every part of the car had to be replaced, one at a time. Audi finally agreed to buy it back.

Another friend has a newer A6. Literally within 500 miles after the warranty ran out, he needed $5,000 in repairs.

I am a big opponent of extended warranties/service contracts, but if I get an A6 (probably slightly used so as not to take the new/used car resale value hit), I'd buy an extended warranty.

The new A6 has more gizmos than an S-class Mercedes, so I'm sure there's an infinite number of things that can go wrong.

I think you should get the A6, it seems like a really cool machine. No matter what the brand, you can always find people who think it sucks and will be breaking down every time you drive the car. Still, I would recommend getting the extended warranty. On the other hand, the F10 5-series is pretty nice too.

It's not hype.

I love VAG products for their style and (superficial) quality, but they're pure garnage mechanically and electrically. How they continue to sell cars in any market is simply beyond me.

To quantify my "not hype" statement, I base my opinion on personal ownership experience, similar experiences of friends and family and on my father-in-law's 25 years as a high-end independent garage owner.

Can only speak from my personal experience but I own an A4 for 5 years and then bought an S4. Both Audi's have had zero problems. I have a few friends with Audi's, same thing.

I've put close to 100K on also. I've driven them quite hard through the mountains between Squamish and Vancouver. Even the older A4 feels as solid as the day I bought it. Nothing shakes or rattles - so different from other even newer cars I've been in.
