VW Phaeton size comparison

Literally minutes after I posted this, I snapped a picture of this parking lot rendezvous.  Don't worry, that Phaeton ain't mine.  But just imagine the rear legroom in that whale of a car!

Working for a Volkswagen dealership here in Boston, I can't help but marvel at these Phaetons when they come in for service (I usually see at least one a week). It's an engineer's wet dream! Originally catered towards people who had the monetary means, but wouldn't want to show it off. Unfortunately, most (not all) have now gone into the hands of those who can't afford the maintenance that they require. I'd like one parked next to my imaginary Citroën SM one day...

@Gavin: Are you on the sales end or service end? Let's say (hypothetically of course) there's a 2005 Phaeton with 34,000 highway miles, one owner, with an extended warranty/service contract good until 2013, is it worth $24,000?

Late model year/ extended service contract (which typically sells for $7,000+), I'd say that it's a lot of car for the money, so long as the service history is consistent. I'm in the sales end, btw.

Like any memorable car, it will bring you pain and pleasure. Mainly the latter. Our leading and most established technician is looking for a 2006 example. It truly is an amazing car.
